Funeral services and memorials

Like all rites of passage in life, the passing of a loved one or friend should be marked with love. Sometimes death is expected or anticipated, but at other times it takes us by surprise. Their passing often leaves us with feelings of enormous sorrow and grief.

We generally see death as an enemy, but it is also a chance to celebrate life. A funeral service is held for a number of reasons. To make our loss real, to gather support, to share memories and to acknowledge how privileged we are to have known the person we mourn. A funeral is also the last gift we can give to someone.

We cannot deny that death brings grief, however we can let our shared sorrow be the beginning of our healing. By celebrating life we can hold a loving tribute as our final gift.
